Valheim How To Use Cheats and Console Commands

Valheim is a Viking survival game currently in Early Access. In its current state of development there is no official creative or sandbox mode which allows you to build at will or spawn items. Fortunately you can access the games console and with the right commands you can essentially enter a ‘poor man’s creative mode’. So we’re going to teach you how to use Valheim cheats and console commands.

For those that are wanting to do some building without having to farm for hours to get the resources or being bothered by mobs, this is going to be very helpful. Use the below information at your own risk. You never know what spawning 1000 crows in your game might do! Actually, according to one Reddit user, it will cause immense amounts of lag and for whatever reason they don’t get killed by the kill command meaning your save file is potentially ruined. Be warned!

How To Use Cheats and Console Commands in Valheim

To enter commands you’ll need to access the games console. You can do this by pressing F5. Note that all commands are case sensitive. Once the console is open the first thing you need to do is type in ‘imacheater’ and hit enter. This will enter the ‘cheat mode’ granting you access to all of the other commands in the game. I would also type ‘god’ and hit enter as this will enable god mode preventing you from taking any damage.

Enter ‘help’ into the console to get a list of all commands available to you. The list of commands is as follows:

pos – Shows player coordinates.
goto [x,z] – Teleports player to the specified coordinates.
exploremap – Reveals the entire map.
resetmap – Resets entire map.
killall – Kills all nearby enemies.
tame – Tames all nearby creatures.
hair – Removes your hair.
beard – Removes your beard
location – Sets spawn location.
raiseskill [skill] [amount] – Raises the named skill by the value entered.
Resetskill [skill] – Resets the names skill to 0.
freefly – Activates the free camera.
ffsmooth 1 – Adds smooth movements to free camera.
ffsmooth 0 – Resets smooth movements to normal.
wind [angle][intensity] – Adjusts the direction and intensity of the wind.
resetwind – Resets the wind angle and intensity
god – Enables god mode.
event [name] – Starts the named event.
stopevent – Stops the current event.
randomevent – Starts a random event.
save – Forces the game to save the current world state.
resetcharacter – Resets all of your character data.
removedrops – Removes all items dropped in the area.
players [nr] – Adjusts the difficulty scale. Enter 0 to reset difficulty.
dpsdebug – Toggles dps debug print on and off.

How To Use Creative Mode in Valheim

A very useful command that hasn’t been mentioned yet is ‘debugmode’. Enter ‘debugmode’ into the console and you’ll activate a few special quick commands. When in debug mode you can:

Press ‘Z’ to enter flying mode. Press shift while flying to go fast.
Press ‘K’ to kill all nearby creatures.
Press ‘B’ to disable all building costs.

When building costs are disabled you can build anything you want without it costing any resources. This is true for both buildings created with the hammer and any item you could craft on any of the work stations. So you can craft armor, weapons, mead bases, food etc directly from your inventory as well as upgrade and repair all items. So you can build as much as you want and if you get any pesky mobs bothering you while you’re building simply press K to get rid of them!

How To Spawn Any Item or Mob in Valheim

Finally there is the ‘spawn’ command which allows you to spawn any item or mob in the game. You use this in conjunction with the correct command ID for the item or mob you are trying to spawn followed by a number depending how many you want to spawn. So the command would be: spawn [ID] [Number]. As an example, to spawn 5 trolls you would enter ‘spawn Troll 5’.

As with other commands it is case sensitive. Note that not all commands make perfect sense. As an example, the command to spawn a Fuling is actually ‘spawn Goblin’.
